Generally, taxpayers must itemize deductions on Schedule A (Form 1040), Itemized Deductions to claim a deduction for charitable contributions. However, beginning with tax year 2026, taxpayers who do not itemize may be able to deduct up to $1,000 in cash contributions, or $2,000 for married taxpayers filing jointly, made to certain qualified organizations.

California is making changes to Medi-Cal that may affect you.
1. Doctor Changes for UIS
If you have UIS (Unsatisfactory Immigration Status) coverage, you may need to find a new doctor. Starting January 1, 2027, some doctors will stop taking this type of Medi-Cal. If you have questions, call your doctor's office.
Does not apply to: pregnant people, people who gave birth in the last 12 months, and former foster youth under 26 who were in foster care on their 18th birthday.
2. UIS Dental Coverage Ends
Beginning July 1, 2027, people with UIS will no longer receive full Medi-Cal dental benefits. Emergency dental services will still be covered.
Does not apply to: pregnant people, people who gave birth in the last 12 months, and former foster youth under 26 who were in foster care on their 18th birthday.
3. Qualified Non-Citizen
Qualified Non-Citizens will keep full-scope Medi-Cal until July 1, 2027, after that date, coverage shifts to emergency-only Medi-Cal.
Does not apply to: lawfully present children under 21, and lawfully present individuals.
4. Asset Limit Change
Beginning July 1, 2027, some Non-MAGI Medi-Cal members may lose coverage if their countable assets are more than $21,000 for one person or $31,000 for a couple.
5. UIS Medi-Cal Monthly Premium
Beginning July 1, 2027, some people with UIS may have to pay a monthly premium of up to 50$ to keep their Medi-Cal coverage.
Does not apply to: pregnant people, people who gave birth in the last 12 months, and former foster youth under 26 who were in foster care on their 18th birthday.
